Prenatal
Massage
Prenatal massage therapy addresses different needs through varying techniques. Most often Swedish massage is the basis for prenatal massage as it aims to relax muscle tension and improve lymphatic and blood circulation through mild pressure applied to the muscle groups of the body. This helps to address many common discomforts associated with the skeletal and circulatory changes brought on by hormone shifts.
It has been used for centuries to improve overall health, reduce stress, relieve muscle tension, reduce anxiety, decrease symptoms of depression, relieve muscle aches, relieve joint pains, improve labor outcomes and aid in a better nights rest.
A common issue experienced while pregnant are Edemas; swelling of the joints during pregnancy. It is often caused by reduced circulation and increased pressure on the major blood vessels by the changes and pressure from the uterus on surrounding nerves. In turn this can also cause Sciatic nerve pain into the legs. Massage helps to stimulate soft tissues to reduce the collection of fluids in swollen joints. This also improves the removal of tissue waste carried by the body’s lymph system.
